Default windshield wipers are terrible.

hey all,
anyone having issues with their wipers? mine are streaking very badly in a few areas. i changed the blades but it didn't help. i'm thinking it might be something in the arm or spring itself. any ideas?

Most likely the blade. Try changing blades to Bosch 16 inch blades they clear window way better then factory 15 inch

It can be the wipers themselves or crap on the windshield. Here's what I do:

For the windshield get yourself some BonAmi or Barkeeper's friend. Wet the windshield, wet a sponge and put some Bon Ami on it, then wet the sponge some more so the Bon Ami disolves into it, wash windshield and rinse throughly. You will be amazed. All the water spots and grime will be gone. Follow up with your favorite window cleaner (I like Stoner's)...

If the wipers continue to streak, then they are the problem. If you've got the coin, I love the Bosch Icon blades....

ETA: Stock JK takes 15" wiperblades, but you can use 16" blades with no issues.

After you do this, rain-x will help a lot in preventing your problem.

I love rainex. That stuff is amazing.

I agree with the post above that it's probably crap on the glass causing the streaks.

Grease, oil, fuel, all kinds of stuff builds up on the glass. Washer fluid isn't enough to clean it off.

A couple or few times a year I windex the glass then apply rainex.

Also remember that the oil and grease buildup on the glass and wiper blades acts as a solvent.

Every few weeks or so, I wipe off the blades. A wet-nap is ideal.

The black that comes off is your wiper blade dissolving from the road oils.

Never used Rain-x. No issues with yellowing of windshield? I seem to recall rumblings to that effect....

I've been using it for 20 years and have never seen or heard of any yellowing. Good stuff, it just needs to be reapplied every 2-3 months for continued effect.

I swear by Rain-X and products that work similarly. The key is keeping a clean windshield and clean wiper blades. Get that road grime off of there and polish up with a coat of Rain-X.

I've only heard about yellowing on the soft top vinyl windows. But that was a long time ago (CJ not JK) and related to Pledge not Rainex.

i changed the blades and the wipe pattern (the streaks) were exactly the same.
i then changed the windshield, to replace a cracked one, and still had no change.
i will try the blades again, and make sure my windshield is clean and smooth.
rain-x is great, but wont solve my issue. It will no doubt help shed rain and keep the windshield clean. i will definitely be applying it.
