Definitely a wobble. I'm going to do some research this weekend when I'm at her house. It's not the "DEATH WOBBLE". At least not at 3 MPH.

Hmm... could it be that the rear tires aren't properly aligned? Maybe the toe is off or something?

You need to drive it going 35-40 MPH in reverse for it to be a genuine "DEATH WOBBLE". At 3 MPH its just a slight shimmy, bump, nudge wibble wobble.

I experienced this in my 07 2 door and my 09 4 door. It shimmys everytime I back up a small incline. My driveway is paved.

I definatly get a uneasy feeling about it everytime it does it.

I also noticed this when my 2008 was NEW, and now again with my 2011 Jeep. Good news is this went away after about 1000 miles on the odometer. Never noticed it again, and I also have a steep driveway, so I felt this 'phenomenon' daily.

I have it too. when I back up my drive way at slow rpm. If I get it going faster it goes away. really noticeable if I am backing up a trailer.

I rarely engage R (stick) it tends to want to jump off the line too fast. I usually half-clutch it into a roll, then N.

Default its transmission

its a shudder. I had a vehicle that did it before in fact it was a Dodge pick up . It was new too . It was a lemon and i got y money back . That was in the 80s . There was more than that that made me file but i dont think youl find it happens every time but its very scarey, It feels like your trannys gonna fall out, Youl prob. have to back up in a straight direction and slower to avoid it .
If yours is a manual a little more clutch action and dont let the clutch out fast . (That sucks)

The jk does seem to want to dart off fast in reverse for some odd reason one feature i never liked about the wranglers. Im not sure thers any fix for that issue either. Most likely not, seeing most jeeps do this including the two ive owned.

I have a 2011 JKU with auto/42RLE. It does the 'wobble thing' too (in 4WD and 2WD) when in reverse/incline. It goes away when I speed up a little.

I thought when it first did this, something was seriously broke (I just got the Jeep from salvage and was ready to chalk it up to that) but apparently it is a known issue and Chrysler indicates there is no repair (see this STAR case attachment pulled from this thread: Jk shakes in reverse on incline - Jeep Wrangler Forum).

For what it's worth, I've gotten used to 'feathering' the accelerator whenever it does this and don't notice it as much anymore.
