Default WTF someone stole my spare wheel!

someone stole my spare wheel off my JK saturday night. so much for locking nuts! unless they happen to have the tool for them.. theres no evidence they broke in my jeep and got my locking tool out to unbolt it..

not sure why anyone would want the stock 17" with the SR-A tire on it????

nevertheless its gonna cost me $$$ to get a new one!.

Over time (with buying used wheels and vehicles) I have about every lock out there. There really aren't that many on the market. To think that a thief can't be as prepared is silly. The only thing the locking lug nuts do is make you changine your own tire more difficult.

Sorry this happend to you though

I bought one of these to lock my spare to the oem tire carrier. I had to drill a hole (5 O'Clock) position to pass the male end of the cable through the carrier and rim. It adds another layer of security to simple theft. It also makes it a little challenging to solo mount the tire on the carrier.

The wheel locks are pretty easy to get around. If there was just 1 lock and two normal lug nuts they just have to crank down the two normal ones and then hand turn the lock off. Or they might have just hammered a socket over it. Or like you said might have just had a key for it. You can buy them easily.

Coated cable locks are cheap and a great visible deterrent. Can they be defeated? Sure, but it takes a bit more time. But if your Jeep appears to be the harder target they'll move on to the next, easier target. I run a locking lug nut and a cable on our spare.

I walked a flea market here in Denver a few months ago, couldn't get over all the stuff that was there that look stolen. Tons of single wheels and tires.

These bastard thieves will also steal anything that can generate them money for drugs. Looks at the Craigslist ads in your region and you might see them popping up.

My aftermarket tire carrier (orfab) has a place for a padlock to protect the tire. However, because of the gas cans that can also be a target I use a cutproof steel cable and put the lock behind the wheel. Makes it a lot more difficult to pick also.
