Jeep forum auctions tricked-out Wrangler to benefit cancer victim’s family

Car forums can be angry places, or so devoted to their chosen topic that there's no daylight for much else. Which is why it's noteworthy that after one Jeep forum lost a key leader to cancer, the board banded together to trick out his Jeep Wrangler into a show truck and sell it for his children's college fund. Jeep owners do know about putting things right side up.

Project-JK.com and its forum Wayalife ranks among the largest Jeep forums on the Internet, and no one posted more over the past several years than Ken Offerbeck, known as HappyCurmudgeon. In the final stages of cancer a year ago, forum editors Edwin and Cindy Oh agreed to buy Ken's own 2007 Wranger Sahara, customize it and then sell the truck online with the proceeds going to Offerbeck's daughter...

Jeep enthusiasts rally around Niagara County family


NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. --- Ken Offerbeck had three loves in his life; His wife April, his daughter Mackenzie and his Jeep.

"He had fun," April Offerbeck said. "He loved Jeeping and he had so much fun working on it, doing new things to it, adding to it," she said.

Offerbeck loved his Jeep so much, when he wasn't with it, he was talking about it. He moderated an online forum about Jeeps.

"They trade parts," his wife said. "They help each other fix things. They buy new things. They tell each other problems about whatever Jeep they have."

But one day he shocked his online friends when he started a thread titled 'I don't have good news to share.' Offerbeck told them he had found a lump on his thigh. He had cancer...
