Poison Spyder 2014 KOH Build: BAJK (AKA "Crispy")
As some of you saw, the Venom One/BFH Racer, which was our King Of the Hammers entry the past two years, was recently sold. Many have asked what our plans are for KOH 2014, so we'll discuss it and cover the build in this thread. Let's start it off with the rendering of what the finished product should roughly look like:
As you can see, it resembles a Jeep quite a bit more closely than our last racer did, and that's our intention. In fact we're building it out of a Jeep, and are trying to maintain the outer appearance as closely as possible. But we're racing it in Ultra4--not Stock or Mod--so while it will be all Jeep on the outside, it will be all racer on the inside!
So let's get started. Our buddy Randall had an unfortunate incident a few years ago when his brand new (only a couple runs on it) 4-door JK caught fire towing it home from an event. Here's what it looked like before that.
...and then...
...and hence the nickname this Jeep has had ever since: "Crispy". We took Crispy's remains off of Randall's hands for safe keeping. We knew we would eventually have a perfect project for it.
Fast forward 3 years later, and the idea for this project began to take shape. Crispy was the perfect candidate. All we needed was a tub and a frame anyhow, so we brought it into the shop and began cleaning it up.

Our plan is to make this a no-holds-barred, pulling out all the stops, Bad-Ass JK. Hence its code-name BAJK. And of course it's running in King Of the Hammers so it couldn't be just a factory JK with some bolt-ons. So here is where it starts to get interesting.
We wanted a longer wheelbase than a 2-door, but a shorter body than a 4-door. So we sent it to our friends over at Kustom Koachworks (JKLWrangler), who are masters at JK body modifications that look factory.
They started removing slices from the body, moving the wheel openings, deleting the second set of doors, etc...

When they delivered it back to our shop, we could hardly believe it was "Crispy". It looked like a brand new Jeep body...well, with some slightly different dimensions than factory 
As you can see, the guys at JKLWrangler do some incredible work. We highly recommend them to anyone who is thinking of doing one of their "JKL" stretched 2-door conversions. We worked with them on one recently for our friends at Magnaflow and it turned out awesome.

While the body was at JKLWrangler, we kept the frame here, as we had big plans for it. So we brought up our 3D JK model in SolidWorks and started making a few changes...
While Danny was working in the computer, the guys in the shop were cleaning up Crispy's frame and getting it prepped for surgery...
Meanwhile, pieces for the frame modifications were coming off of the laser and getting TIG'd up...

Im a big fan of everything you guys do...and am anxious to see this thing come together!
