1. First-Aid Kit

Whether you're changing your tire and you hurt your hand, or you got a splinter on your finger, don't ruin your whole trip. Having a first-aid kit while you're off-roading should always come on the top of your list, regardless if you anticipate a small injury or a life-threatening one. This item may make your trip easier, or it could save your life, so just throw it in your trunk and get a peace of mind.

2. Phone Charger

This is by far the most overlooked item on anyone's list. What's the use of having the smartest of phones that can tell you where each USA president was born if you don't have a battery charge? If you love off-roading and plan on doing it a lot, you are bound to need some sort of help. Be sure your phone is always charged in case you need it for an emergency, or if you simply want to ask Google how you can get unstuck.

3. VHF Radio

If you're feeling extra adventurous, at some point you will be out of range and your phone will have no service. Having a VHF radio in your car can reach much farther than your cell phone, depending on the type you get. Worse case scenario, some other person will hear you on their radio and end up saving your life, so get a long-range one, and don't forget to say "over."

4. Rope

If you off-road a lot, you will need this item. In fact, every time you go off-roading, you will probably either get stuck or run across someone that is stuck. Having a rope can't hurt, it can only make your life, or someone's life, easier. Once you're stuck, ask someone to give you a pull, and if you see someone that is stuck and needs help, remember that what goes around comes around.

5. Hi-Lift Jack

The jack that came with your car won't help you when you're off-roading. Whether you are stuck, or if you need to change your tire off the road, you will need to use a hi-lift jack, which is a jack that is much higher than your average jack, designed to raise your Jeep high enough on uneven roads. This item can allow you to raise your Jeep high enough so you can place something under your tire to help you get unstuck, or it can help you change your tire anywhere, no matter how deep you are.

6. Tire-Plug Kit

The idea of off-roading is to drive on the roughest of terrains. With rough terrains, come rough objects that could slice your tires. Having a tire plug kit can quickly and temporary fix your tires so you can get back on the road, and get your tire fixed. These kits allow you to fix the hole in your tire while your wheel is still mounted, and if you are wondering how you will drive after your tire has lost its air, check out the next slide.

7. Portable Air Compressor

Whenever you need air, you can just breathe, but when your tire needs air, it needs an air compressor. These portable air compressors are lightweight and they work every time. This is not only good for when your tire loses air, this is also good for various off-roading terrains. For instance, if you are rock crawling, you need to empty a large portion of the air in your tires, and when you're done, the air compressor will ensure you get your tires back to normal so you can drive home, or even tackle different terrains.

8. Food and Water

Off-roading is a risky and fun activity, which is why we love it because dangerous gives us a rush. However, on an extremely bad day, you can get stranded somewhere with no help around for miles, that's when you will need food and water. Having big bottles of water and canned food can save your life, not to mention keep you hydrated and sane so you can think clearly. Don't underestimate this extreme hobby and always prepare yourself for potential emergencies.

9. Flashlight

If the night comes and you need to do almost anything, a flashlight will be your best friend. You can forget about getting unstuck or even trying to figure out why your car is stuck if it's dark out. Always carry a flashlight and some extra batteries; items that don't take any space yet can save you a lot of time figuring out obstacles.

10. Fire Extinguisher

The idea of off-roading is to push the limits of yourself and your car to its limits. Pushing your car can result in various issues, from overheating to a fire, especially with all of the electronics in your car, so if today isn't your day and your car decided to catch on fire, don't just sit and watch it burn; instead, use your proper fire extinguisher to minimize the damage and put an end to the disaster.

Stay safe and have fun out there!
