5 Jeeps for On-Road Performance

The Jeep Wrangler is nothing short of an off-roading legend, but has never been known to perform well on the roads. Here are some modifications that will make it more road friendly.

1. Cold Air Intake

If you're new to the Jeep Wrangler, you will notice it doesn't accelerate as well as most vehicles, simply because it doesn't need to. When it comes to the Wrangler, going over obstacles is the main goal. Replacing the stock air intake system with an aftermarket cold air intake kit could really add a few horsepower to your Jeep, making it respond much better. The cold air intake kit takes the cold air going into your engine compartment, and sends it into your warm engine, thus increasing its power.

2. Performance Tires

If you have off-road tires, then your Wrangler will serve you well away from the road, but it may annoy you on the paved roads. The off-roading tires are generally louder on the road, not to mention they don't have as good of traction. If you find yourself not using your Jeep off the road, consider replacing your off-road tires with performance tires, or even all-season tires. These tires should give you better traction on the road, as well as a more comfortable ride.

3. Ride Height

Many people purchase their Wranglers with a three-inch lift, and sometimes more, but they find themselves using it on the road 98% of the time. If you need on-road performance, the closer you are to the ground the better. Don't go lower than the stock height, however, it may ruin the quality of the ride, but consider going back to the stock height, this will give you much better handling and stability on the road.

4. Performance Exhaust

Replacing the stock exhaust can only make for a more powerful Jeep. The obvious benefit of replacing the stock exhaust with aftermarket one is the performance. Having a larger exhaust allows for better air flow, freeing your engine more, and making it perform much better. However, there are other benefits to replacing the stock exhaust, like getting better fuel consumption, as well as making your engine roar much better.

5. Suspension System

Let's face it, there are numerous people that love the Wrangler, but they have no intention of going off-roading with it. Jeep doesn't discriminate, and if you want to drive the Wrangler to work every day and never take it away from the road, you are more than welcome to do so. The suspension system on the Jeep Wrangler is designed for off-roading, and even though it performs well on the road, it could be much better. Depending on your driving style and needs, you can replace the stock shocks and springs to match your driving style. For instance, if you are looking for performance suspension, you can get stiffer ones that will allow for tighter handling, and if you're looking for comfort, softer shocks and springs would be your best bet.
