7 Most Iconic Jeeps Ever Built

There isn't a person on the planet that doesn't know a Jeep when they see one. But these might be the most iconic of the bunch.

1. Willys MB

Over 640,000 Willys MB Jeeps were built between 1941 and 1945, and it still stands today as a symbol of American ingenuity. Once the war was over, the MB evolved into the Jeep CJ, spawning and entirely new segment for the vehicle - the recreational four wheel drive. It also helped set the stage for several generations of military vehicles that would follow.

2. CJ-8 Scrambler

The CJ-8 Scrambler is easily one of the coolest Jeeps ever produced, and it's relatively rare to boot. A long wheelbase version of the CJ-7, the CJ-8 featured a removable half cab that left a small, pickup style box when removed. Scrambler was an appearance package that added stripes and special wheels as an option. Perhaps the most famous CJ-8 Scrambler owner of all was Ronald Regan, who famously drove it around his California ranch.

3. CJ-5/CJ-6

The last of the real Jeeps didn't come with unnecessary things like the automatic transmissions and smog equipment. And the CJ-5 and CJ-6 set the tone for everything we know and love about Jeeps today, making off roading a way of life instead of just a silly hobby.

4. J10 Shortbed

Jeep hasn't made a lot of pickups over the years, which alone makes the J10 pretty special. But these trucks had a lot of other things going for them as well. Their drivetrain came from a heavy duty full-size truck, providing serious capability in a mid-size pickup. Plus, the suspension is easily upgradable and works equally well on and off the road.

5. XJ Cherokee

Love it or hate it, the XJ had pretty much everything you could want in a Jeep - comfort, capability, reliability, space, and power. The drivetrain was durable, and the XJ served equally well hauling groceries home from the store as it did tackling off-road trails. And with some easy upgrades, they can be made into serious off-roading machines.

6. TJ Wrangler

The TJ is a capable, civilized, daily driver that is also capable of handling some pretty tough trails in stock form. The drivetrain is rock solid reliable, and replacement parts are literally everywhere. That's because Jeep sold a metric ton of TJ's, as they proved to be one of the more popular models ever built. And they still look pretty modern, even today.

7. JK Wrangler

We truly live in the best of times, because the JK is easily the most versatile Jeep ever built. It will drive on winter roads, down sunny beaches, over paved highways, and down rough trails. Even a basic, bare bones 4wd JK will take you places a vintage Jeep simply can't. And if so desired, you can build it into anything you could ever want. It's hard to say that about any vehicle.
