Would You Pay Almost $150K For a Hellcat Gladiator?

How many of you would actually take the plunge and tell the kids that they can take out their own student loans to pay for college?

Do I have your attention?

The North American boss of Jeep thinks you can't handle a Hellcat engine stuffed into a Gladiator but Mark Mitsubishi in Phoenix thinks otherwise. Safety concerns be damned you can get your hands on a battle-ready, red light smoking, off-road leviathan for the more than reasonable price of $147,992.

Be careful out there

Now before any of you start to liquidate assets while en route to Arizona it would be prudent of me to drop the warning that Tim Kuniskis laid out to the Australian branch of Drive:

“... there is no air space around the engine and the whole external space of the vehicle so you have no crush space; you have nothing that can be used to absorb energy in a crash. It is not a problem to put it in - other than emissions and fuel economy - except it would never pass any crash tests, and that’s a problem.”

If it ain't +700hp I don't care

It looks as if a shop, America's Most Wanted, that specializes in engine swaps of the hulking V8 variety for Wranglers and Gladiators is behind this bit of performance engineering. The base for the swap was a Gladiator of the Rubicon Trim which begins at a base price of $43,545 with a very sad 285 horsepower. America's Most Wanted offers up a kit for a Gladiator Hellcat conversion and it retails currently at just $58,850 so there's that.

Ask for an itemized statement

My guess on the price difference is a mix of labor costs plus a decent dose of "the dealership has a make a profit" stirred up in a pricey cauldron. Whatever the reason is, a hundred grand is nothing to sneeze at and could make many financial advisors/significant others lose color or suddenly go catatonic (think Cameron in Ferris Bueller's Day Off).

Perhaps, we could all pool our money?

Welp boys and girls all I have to say about this one is no one knows if we get a second go-round with this thing called life so maybe take the plunge and buy one of these kits. I mean, it's only money. However, don't @ me because I'm swimming in student debt and will not be able to even breathe on one of these unless someone dropped it off as a press vehicle.
