Default 2011 Easy Bulb Replacement

Ok, we all know that the 2011 JK Fog lights are crap. Well I was reading the forum one morning and read a post from CbtEngr about the yellow bulbs that he ordered for his 2011 fog lights. Long story short (ish), he got them in and installed them with some minor modification. So I wanted to order them also. I stumbled across the ones below which were a different brand than his, but, still the same size. I ordered them so we could meet to compare and see which was brighter and post the info here for ya'll to see. So, here goes.

Here are the ones I used

I took out the stock bulb on the right for a comparison.

The pins are the same. Around the rectangle, you can see little bumps or guides so, when you plug them in, they go in the right way. Well, the H16 bulb is almost a perfect fit except for one of the little bumps is moved over so it doesn't fit the plug in the JK.

So, I went to Harbor F and bought a cheapo "dremel tool" that came with some attachments. Cost like $8.

I decided to use something that looked like it was for de-burring stuff. It worked great.

Here is the stock bulb. You can see the guides along the top of the rectangle. Notice how they are even distance from the ends.

Here is the new H16 bulb. Notice how the guide on the left is closer to the side. It has to be removed for it to plug in.

About 15 seconds later with the dremel tool. Notice the guide on the left is gone.

I hope this helps those of you that just want the option to buy a regular bulb that will fit your stock housing.

Hey guy that was a nice write-up and the new bulbs make a huge difference. I bought new SilverStar ones that I thought were for my '11 but was told they're not the right ones. Yours seem nice and bright. Have you gone out in foggy weather or at night and tested?

Good morning Navyvetnorwich91,

Yea, I drive in to work at 0330 hrs and get to see how bright they are. It was raining pretty hard yesterday and they are great. I think I need to adjust them. Work keeps getting in the way.

I have seen most of the other threads with folks installing HID's, or the Pilot 203W lights and others but don't have first hand experience with seeing any of those. But, these are definetly brighter and extremely easy to install. I am very happy with them.

BTW, this was my first actuall write-up. I appreciate the comments. I am finally able to contribute -

Thanks, Sapper12b. I will try to get a night shot tomorrow morning before I go to work.

I believe in the KISS theory.

Not sure how you'd measure this but any idea if this impacts other oncoming drivers (being brighter and all)? Anyone flash their lights at you?

For what it's worth, it wasn't until I was shopping for bumpers that I actually started using the fogs to see what difference they made. I was very surprised to see how well they filled in below the headlight "splash", and now use them religiously. And, my new bumper has the fog cutouts. That being said, I'd love to get even more usable light out of the fogs and may just give this a try.
Driving in the DC metro I drive with my lights on at all times (the drivers around here suck). I have never had anyone flash me due to my lights being too bright. I actually believe that I need to adjust my fogs up a little. So, yes they are brighter, but, they are still aimed, unlike if you were to put an HID into the old housing. I am not a fan of those that drive around with their fogs angled up blinding everyone else. Therefore, I am always aware of any mods I do to my lights. In fact, my next light mod will be the Hella e-code head lights with a new wiring harness. They are MUCH brighter than stock but, they have a very distinct cutoff and don't blind oncoming traffic. Hope this helps.

Like what's been already said..If you don' t want to blind others then aiming correctly is the key. I have the e-codes and I have yet to be flashed because they blinded someone.
