RES Radio Security Code
Mods: Probably want to sticky this one. This literally took 15+ phone calls to find out the right info.
If you take a 130 RES radio (probably other models too) out of your Jeep and sell it, when it is installed in another vehicle, they will need a 4 digit security code or it won't work.
The procedure to get the code is as follows. Best to do this BEFORE you ship it to the buyer.
1. Call your dealer and explain that you need your security code
2. They will likely have you come in and show your vehicle registration because they need the VIN number and need to prove that the radio wasn't stolen
3. They will need to go to their 'DEALER CONNECT' site that is only available to dealers
4. Go to the 'SERVICE' section
5. Then go to the 'REPAIR' section. There will be a link on that page for radio security codes.
6. They will have to type in your VIN number and the Serial Number from the radio. (This is why it's better to do this before shipping)
It will then give them the Anti-Theft Code (4 digits)
If you call them and they try to give you the run around (like they did me) insist that they look on their 'DEALER CONNECT' site.
The code IS NOT in the manual that came with your Jeep. There is no supplement for the radio included.

If that can't happen, it's essentially useless and you should return it to the seller.
I requested that this thread gets a sticky, but that request was ignored.

Yes, without the code, or the original owner to get the code, it's a giant paperweight.

If you got it on ebay, you should return it. It's the same as buying an electronic item that doesn't work. If the seller won't take it back, leave him negative feedback.
If the seller can't get the code, it's considered stolen merchandise.

plus he shipped parcel when i paid $27 for priority.. im already working on at least getting a $10 back for that.
so its doubtful he will help me any more after giving me back some money. guess I'll just resell it on ebay, although the difference is I will say I have no code...

I've been on ebay for over 10 years and have 100% positive feedback. If he has good feedback, he won't want to risk it. It doesn't hurt to email him and definitely be nice. If he doesn't comply, then you will have to threaten negative feedback + Paypal dispute.
I've been involved in Paypal disputes before, they will have you send it back and he will have to refund the money. He can't sell you something that doesn't work and then refuse the return.
If all else fails though, you shouldn't try to re-sell it. There's no way for anyone to get it to work without the original VIN.
