    Default 4.7l?

I'm sure I'm not the first one to do so, but I've been thinking about a 4.7L swap into a JK as a cheaper option to a HEMI. With that said, I've used the magic search button in a few different sub-forums to see if I could find any relevant posts but found none. I'm wondering if anyone has put any serious thought into this or if there has been someone to try it. I would think that it would not be too difficult to make the swap using a 4.7 out of a junked Grand Cherokee. Any thoughts or links to relevant posts?

i didnt think the the 4.7 was a compatible option because of the CANBUS system? thats why the hemi is popular - it uses the same computer system, so mating them to make the goodies work is easier. Not that it cant me done, but it may require a lot more rewiring and customization to make it work. Chrysler uses a high speed CANBUS and a low speed CANBUS, and i dont believe the components are interchangeable Hopefully someone else more knowledgeable will chime in....

i say when you are already factoring in all the necessary fabrication and parts..a hemi would probably be worth the difference after you get the 4.7L in (if)

But the 4.7 and Hemi were both offered in the WK Grand Cherokee.

    So shouldn't they be compatible?

Why would Jeep, Chrysler, DCX, make two separate computer systems for the 4.7L and Hemi powered WKs?

That wouldn't make sense from a cost stand point, but then again, not much any auto maker does make sense.

IIRC burnsville offroad put in a 4.7l. I would call them up and pick their brain.

Is there s huge power difference between the two(4.7 vs. 5.7)? Other than the obvious, one bigger than the other.

Guessing on the 4.7l but if it isn't the newest generation of the 4.7 then it has 230 hp 300 ft lb where the hemi has 340 hp and 390 ft lb so I would consider that a huge difference.

don't forget the 4.7L HO that was offered as well. It was 265HP and 330ish torque.

That was the powerplant in my '02 WJ Limited.
