Default A question for those that have drilled their mirrors..

I drilled mine using a very small drill bit at an upward angle and they do drain better than before, but it still takes at least a day before they dry out. I was wondering how big of a drill bit everyone is using and how far to drill in. I was kinda cautious about getting too carried away with the drill bit. It seems reading through the previous posts that everyones are draining better and that it pour out when washing. Mine basically just dribbles some water out.

Just drilled mine yesterday and it works great. Drilled a .120 hole or #31 drill bit. go in till you break through the plastic then back out.

The plastic on the outside of the mirror or farther in? About how far did you drill in?

If it still takes a while for the water to drain out then maybe the hole placement is not correct. I did mine at the lowest point possible and it drains within 10 min completely.

Don't drill until you hit metal!!!!

Drill until you feel it go through the housing then back the hell off! Don't you think our vehicles have enough rust susceptibility as it is!

Yikes not to metal. Drill till the bit just falls through the plastic part. Very easy to feel.

So using one reallly really long drill bit, and just going in through one mirror and out the other, is a BAD thing?

I did mine with the smallest bit I had. I didn't think it would drain too good with such a small hole but it pours out of there, nice steady flow.
Just pop thru the plastic, maybe 1/8 of an inch to get thru it.
If I show somebody where the hole is it takes me a few seconds to find it and I know where it is ... very small.
