Most any local hardware store that sells keys will cut your key blank for you. There probably will be a small charge for this service.

Local Ace cut it for free. I think he just wanted to see if it would work.

I had a local locksmith cut mine. Less than $3 for both keys. The transponder key I got on eBay for $7 shipped and the non transponder was I think $4. All in all $14 versus $200+ at the stealership.

Default Exact same key as original with Lock / UnLock / Panic

Well I followed ya'lls suggestions on looking at Ebay and actually found the exact key as the original. If you do a search for

OEM JEEP REMOTE KEY KEYLESS ENTRY FOB TRANSMITTER

    The seller is - yourkeylessremote

    The price is $47.96

If you want the original replacement. It is definetly cheaper than the stealership.

Anyone have a blank number for a flat, no plastic, key?

Usually keep one in my wallet, in case i lock my keys in car. but cannot find a blank number without plastic on it.

    thanks

For those folks who already have 2 working keys, here is a place to get uncut, inexpensive transponder chip keys online:

    Jeep Wrangler Transponder Chip Keys

These keys are American Made and will work in all 2007 through 2012 Wranglers, as well as Jeep Patriot, Liberty, and Compass

Tried programming new key. The new key will start the jeep and it continues to run, but, when I use it to unlock the door the alarm sounds when I open it.

Default Two new working keys for under $15!

Thanks for the awesome write-ups ya'll! Bought two transponder equipped keys on ebay from yourkeylessremote for $13.45 shipped to my door, had Lowes cut them for FREE, and followed directions here. Worked first try on both keys. Now I've got a hide-a-key, a set for my wife and I, and a spare to keep in the safe.
