So looking into snorkels and CAIs to try and get cooler air (not engine compartment) into the intake i know for a fact i have a left over genright center hood louvre somewhere in my garage, so i autocaded one up (im no artist) and see what it might look like if i cut out the area where the stock airbox sucks from and riveted/screwed in a vent

It would look something like this

Now i know if i were to get water in that vent id hydrolock, but seeing as its above the fender i wouldnt go through anything that deep, i was also considering a wax or water repellant to aid in keeping rain/splashes out of the filter, maybe even some chicken wire netting on the inside. Im a dreamer so if yall see this as a suicide to the hood and the engine call me out. Id rather have a stupid idea than a busted jeep. Thanks

You have a good idea, but judging from the photo you used
Your Jeep has been covered by a fair amount of mud and silt.
If you were to do this mod, You would most definitely would
have to incorporate some type of screen to block the
elements from entering into Your intake/ filter box area.
A lot of small holes on and even surface will give you better
protection than a vane or finned vent. I would even check
the bottom of the inlet neck and/or the air box to see if
there is a drain to keep water from going beyond the filter
-stage area. If the isn't one, a simple solution would be to
use a one-way vent and a short piece of vacuum tubing
so the water has someplace,(other than into your engine)
to go.

Thats why humility breeds perfection, i should incorporate a channel to drain/capture unwanted debris. Plus a mesh would cut down on blockage.

Bump TTT! I just pulled my AfE CAI from my JK.. no real reason really, it's just so hot here in La. I was looking at the factory box and how the "scoop" is against the side of the hood.. .. what if I can cut a vent in the side for "outside" air, so... I like the OPs idea, where are you at on it??? In a perfect world AEV would sell an "insert" kit (side vents, hood scoop), that you just cut the holes and insert these pieces in. .. but noooo...no one sells a side vent kit, SO get on it Vendors!!


Another note, I noticed that it shifts better, after reinstalling the factory box.. weird.. anyho

Thanks for your interest and support! As of today its just another unfinished project, like the storage mod or my poison spyder hood louver. One day i hope to come across some sort of funnel or gutter that fits my needs perfectly, until then i bestow my quest unto you!

Yup! I was thinking that or the front gen right hood louver for the TJ, bent and riveted to place

Well..I noticed that the hood is curved from the seam..it will be hard to find a curved vent .. I was thinking of the liberty or commander hood vent. It looks small enough to fit without major changes.
