Default Custom LED lights in footwell

So I wired up some LED strips in the footwell of my JK, and thought I would share what I did since it turned out so well.

First, I bought two LED strips from the Oznium website (Google it), specifically ribbon LED flexible strips. I got two 6 inch in cool white. These come all wired and ready to go, they are only $7.99 each, and come in various lengths and colors.

First, I needed to get power to the footwells. I found it easy to get power from the rear dome light, so I unzipped the covers form the roll bars, and took apart the rear light. The wire that supplies power based on when the doors are open is the middle wire of the connector. I used a wire tap connector, and tapped into that wire, and then ran a wire through the soft padded roll cover all the way to the passenger footwell.

Next, I attached the power (red wire I ran) to the white wire of the LED, and attached the black wire from the LED to a round connector, then to one of the bolts of the door strap hook.

Next, I attached the LED strip to the side of the passanger footwell on the painted surface, near the door strap hook. To supply power to the driver side, I used another wire tap connector, and ran another wire over to the driver side, and repeated the process.

Now I have bright light in my footwells whenever the dome lights are on! I would like to do a similar mod to the back seats, and in the engine compartment.

stupid question, but do the footwell lights come on when you turn the dome light on with the switch (doors closed)?

I installed a set on or 2012 JKU. I hooked mine up to the white/purple wire in he passenger footwell. We decided we wanted ours to be in the entire time the parking lights were on and also I wired a relay up so when any door is open they will come on even when lights aren't on as well. It has worked out very well and the wife is very pleased.

I haven't done anything like this, but this is what I wanted to do... but maybe have a dimmer blue when the marker lights were on and then a cool white come on when the dome light/doors open ... I'm guessing that's two different wire jobs huh? lol
It's called a JEEP Trail ... That's why your HUMMER wouldn't make it!

I did the same but with a blue led strip from autozone. I wired it to the door harness so when I open the door or press unlock the lights go on

I did the same thing, I went with green to match the dash lights. Still trying to decide if I want them on if the car is running (all the time) or just when the interior lights are on.

    What do you guys think?

thanks for the idea FiveOfun. I just did this a couple days ago using 12" max bright white led strips. I attached them to the very bottom of dash for a clean OE appearance. Not a single wire visible, kinda over powers my dome led now. Awesome
