Default 2wd or 4wd

I now owen a 11 rubicon with 4" lift, 5.13 gears, reel driveshafts, 37 toyos, chrom moly axle shafts, from and rear smity bumpers, winch, and a couple of more goodies. But dont want to put that many miles in it since iam planning to trade the rubi in for a diesel truck that i need in the end of this year. ( i know but i need the truck ) so i need a DD and wont settle for anything else then a jeep. Now my plan is to get a jeep and switch everything except gears to my DD, but since iam getting just an X model iam planning on getting a pr44 and atlas transfer with lockers and matching gears. So heres my dilema since iam changing axels and transfer ive been doing some research on 2wd conversion and wondering if its worth buying a 2wd and converting it or just buy a 4wd, its about a 2 to 3 grand diff in price. ( iam going with a 07 or 08 model ) what do u guys think?

I always wondered if it is easy as throwing in a front axle and transfer case. I was thinking that the computer might be different in which I believe controls a few things as you put it in 4wd. "Disables airbags while in 4lo" - shift points, etc.

There are several threads on here where guys have done that, if you are gonna beef it up, why pay for parts you aren't gonna use. I'm the proud owner of an 07 JKU Sahara 2x4, got a steal of a deal and gonna build it 4x4 the way I want it and not have to pay interest on parts I didn't need in the first place. Btw, it's VERY straightforward and simple swap from all the hours of research I've done. I did my lift install myself and now that I see it's not as intimidating as I once thought a buddy and I will be doing the conversion in the garage. I say get a hell of a deal on a 2by and make a Jeep's dreams come true.

I did the conversion to my sahara. I went with stock parts at the time due to me just wanting a 4x4 for cheap rather than saving for 60's etc. The swap is easy. It is simply swapping out the fake 2x4 front axle, T-case, transmission input shaft(auto), front and rear driveshafts, adding a skid plate for the tcase and running the shifter cable. I have not yet flashed the computer but I believe the only difference is my 4wd light doesnt illuminate and I have to manually disable my traction control etc.. Once you get under the jeep, you will be amazed how easy it is.. Im really surprised more people do not do this when the initial plan is go big anyways...hope this helps give you the confidence to do the swap

Call the stealer, give them P/N : 52852986AB (it may convert to an AC #) I believe it's $147 for the transmission adapter. Much cheaper than changing the tranny. My local guys were happy to know the part even existed. Nice when you can educate the parts counter guy.

I had no clue such a Wrangler even existed. My wife wants an Unlimited but has zero intention of wheeling it. She just likes the JKU so the possiblity is there for me to save some dough. If someone would be so kind, which years were available in 2WD? Thanks

Sounds like a pretty awesome idea. I'm just glad somebody's getting those 2x4 abominations off the road and setting them up as proper jeeps. The jeep gods will thank you.

X2 and I only paid 118 for the adapter. You will spend about 250.00 on factory parts. I kept my receipts so if you need Mopar#s I should have them.
