1) durability- any research into v8 reliability will point to the LS. Plus I've experienced it personally.
2) ease of swap now that there are venders with kits and miles of testing. I chose the 5.3 in particular to limit the necessary mods. Not looking to race straight up mountains, just want v8 power.
3)I love everything about the LS motors. I used to own a Cadillac CTS-V, and that 6 liter pushrod motor was such an all-American experience in v8 sound and power.

Update for anyone interested:
Decided to trust Motech for the kit and their recommendation of John Gobbels in Alabama. He's been great so far, and we are working on shipping logistics for the swap. Psyched!

Yum. Couldn't help but share. 5.3 LS and 6L80e tranny pulled from a 2010 Tahoe with less than 100 miles.

Wow. I picked the right shop. I know there are "plants" on these forums who promote products/companies. I am not one.
This shop is so good that I have to sing their praises. John at Protec inspected the pullout motor we bought (less than 100 miles), and he didn't think it was perfect. He got the vendor to replace the pullout with a brand new crate motor at no additional cost. I'm so impressed with John's attention to detail. Everything in this swap process has been professional, down to details like insurance.
Some eye candy:

Waiting on engine mounts and kit from Motech. We were shipping during the holidays, and their original shipment was lost. John has had to sit on his hands for a couple of weeks.
We're hopeful everything will arrive this week.
