Default Locker options for non rubicon model JK's

So I have my Jeep just how I want it and the only the missing is lockers. With my little spacer lift and 33's I have been able to climb all but the rock crawler buggy type trails at most parks. The only thing hindering my jeep is it's open axles. So time to solve that problem.

    Options for rear D44:
    1) Sell a kidney and drop out of college and buy ARB(best locker, most $$$)
    2) Sell kidney, stay in school and buy Eaton elockers or OX lockers (unreliable, still alot of $$)
    3) buy a limited slip of some kind or auto locker (this is my DD so probably a bad option also)
    4) Rubicon locker?!?!

I'll probably lunch box the front till it explodes and replace the damn thing with a D44

Anyone know if you can simply add a rubicon locker into the D44? That might be my best option if so. If not, anyone have any other options?

unfortuantely, you cannot just pop in a rubicon 44 e-locker into a standard 44 housing.

regarding yoursetup, i personally would install a lunchbox locker in the rear instead of the front. that'll help you out plenty and leaving the front open will help keep you from breaking things.

Why do some of the local shops make it sound that lunch box lockers are a problem waiting to happen.
The staff flinch at the mention at the 3 shops I placed the inquiries.
That being said, I know 3 people that are totally happy with them.

a lunch box locker is a locker that is always engaged. cheap alternative to an ARB locker, but can wear out an axle and they ride differently on the road

I have a OX Locker and it is "reliable" and a good friend of mine runs a Eaton Locker and it hasn't failed either.....I don't know where you are getting that info from. If you want cheap get a lunchbox locker like WOL suggested. I have another friend that runs the Aussie brand and he really likes it but has to becareful and full turn because it wants to engage partially depending on speed, other than that it seems to get the job done

The eaton e locker is perfect for d30's and d35's (4 pinion design is what ive heard) but their D44 (2 pinion) is inferior to the ARB. And I have not seen much support for the OX locker, but you would think a cable operated locker would be more reliable that any electric or air powered setup. Ultimately this being my DD and have next to zero cash flow i may have to wait awhile to do any axle upgrade

anyone done a limited slip option out of curiousity??

Do a quick search on the TrueTrac, made by Detroit. Very popular unit with quite a lot of very positive feedback. D30 is about $375, D44 $440.

I never recommend a lunch box for a rear axle application unless it's just a very temporary solution. They'll work, but tend to wear out the case and are much more prone to pin failure. Like others have said, they also wear over time.
