more pics of fun in the deep stuff
It kinda was, and that was about halfway down where we stopped to play around and hunt for Christmas trees cause the snow conditions were finally safe again.
This run had very deep snow that was heavy and very slick where packed. Someone had broken trail the day before so we only had 8in or so on top of their tracks but followed them until they turned around, still about 300ft elevation and maybe 1/4 mile below the fire pit. We never even got to where we wanted to hunt for trees and the climbs up above 4000ft were not possible until that base firms up a bit. As it was multiple pulls were required to keep everyone going. It was very easy to get sucked off the track into the deep bottemless stuff on the side. Sahara Maverick was pretty new to the snow and it was fun to give him a few tips and see him air down to 8 and then start doing really well. Tiltz (Dustin) got stuck several times trying to pull him out so we kept two tow straps pretty busy, but never needed the winches. Here's a few cell phone pics that my son and I took:
First a couple shots of Dustin trying the bypass on one of the switchbacks on the way up
He began to realize how slick it was here
And then slid down sideways
On the way up...these are at about 2500ft elevation and the snow is just starting to get deep

more pics
This is at about 3000ft and it is over 2ft deep now
As we got past about 3500ft and the snow depth was over 4ft this started happening
Didn't find a good tree but tracked a rabbit though the woods....snow shoes required!
Overall a fun day with very challenging snow conditions. My siped MTRKs at 5psi were definitely working the best in our group, but I still couldn't stay on top when we got to the end of the previous groups tracks. Snow went up over the hood as in Dustins pic and then you bogged down. I was able to back out, but by then we had had enough and headed back down.

Here some of the photos I took. I have several more in my Trips album. It was a great day and a pleasure to meet and ride with you guys. We need to do more of this.
I learned a lot. Thanks much! Impressive how the tire pressure makes such huge difference. I started at 10-11psi and ended-up at 8 psi or less, which solved my stuck issues. But the lift probably also made a difference. I ws feeling my Jeep scrapping the bottom on the snow while I could see yours doing great. Definitely need a 2in lift. :-)
