    Default Hardtop Improved Insulation Installation

This is for the Freedom Top Insulation sold by Colorado Jeep Man. I tried to use the velcro on the hard top following the instructions in the kit as is. I had a recurring problem of the velcro that comes with the kit not sticking to the hard top. It would stick for a few days, but inevitably would release.

After trying several things, I finally found something that is permanent. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures, but can explain verbally.

Basically, throw away the velcro that comes with the kit and get some velcro that does not come with any adhesive on the back. Mine was in a box that was intended to be sewn on, and I got it from Wal-Mart.

    Next, get some contact cement.

Then, just follow the instructions on the contact cement to glue the velcro to the top. Put some cement on the top and on the back of the velcro. Wait at least 15 minutes before putting the velcro on, then carefully put the velcro on. I say carefully because it is difficult to move the velcro once it is stuck on, so you want to line it up really good as you put it on. It is easier to do it with the tops off.

I waited 24 hours before I stuck the insulation on, but I think you can put it on immediately, because it looks really stuck on.

How do you like the Insulation? I have been contemplating getting this for the winter coming up (I live in Maine for now) and to help with road noise.

Personally I love it. My wife who only knows where the steering wheel and gas pedal is in the car commented on how much quieter it is. I haven't had it long enough to determine how it does for cold insulation, but I know it works good for heat. Once the inside cooled off, I could turn the AC down more than without the insulation. After all said and done, I would recommend it.

    Hope this helps.

I was pretty sure I was going to pick it up anyway, but thanks for the input. Up here in Maine, it gets pretty cold and anything to help is worth a try and if it quites down the wind noise also, even better.

Thanks for the post! I've been contemplating getting the insulation myself.

Here is a solution that does not require going to Walmat. HotHead Headliners, you can see them at www.hotheadheadliners.com. We tested several different brands of velcro, the only one that withstands the heat is a Velcro brand product with an acrylic base adhesive the is temperature rate for -20 to 225 degrees F. We tested it at 300+ degrees with a heat lamp and it still held quite securely. These headliners also reduce outside noise levels, make your stereo sound better, and they look like a factory product.
If you have any questions or comments please let my know.
