ORW has had some concern with the stock Jeep JK transfer case cable shifter for some time. We recently installed the Advance Adapters Cable Upgrade Kits for several of our JK customers and in the 2012 ORW JK. You could feel the difference between the two as soon as you attempt to engage the transfer case. After reading all of the Forum Posts from concerned JK owners, I would be hesitant to shift in and out of four-high and four-low without worrying that I would break the plastic bushing. I have included a link to the Advance-Adapters-upgraded-transfer-case-cable web page below and a link to the JK Forum Thread that discusses the advantages of replacing the stock cable and installation
guide with comments from other JK Forum Members.

Advance Adapters now offers a new deluxe cable shifter system upgrade for the Jeep® JK vehicles. This new heavy duty design was created for the offroader who is consistently shifting the transfer case in and out of its various ranges. The improved cable and mounting system offers both a durable and dependable system that removes the easily worn out or easily broken factory cable system.

When I bought my '08 Rubi last year, the shift cable broke my second time out wheeling. I was stuck at 4,800ft elevation, 6 miles deep into the wilds. I had to get all the way back out to the highway in 4lo. Then I needed a tow truck to cart me 50 miles to the nearest town.
I had no idea about the weakness of the stock transfer case cable, and you can be sure I will be adding this to my list of things to get.

Another thing to add to my list. The JK doesn't shift into 4wd as nice as my TJ did, maybe this will change this.

It does make a big difference in shift feel.....much more "solid" feeling.

My bushing broke about the third time I shifted into 4H. This is on the list as one of my next mods.

How hard is the install?

We've done a few of those kits here in the shop. It's not terribly difficult, just a little time consuming.
Here's a link to the instructions per AA.
