Default Help! Too much water? Won't start?

Help! I have searched for answers but now my phone is almost dead. Just got pulled out of water that had the back half of the jeep fully submurged. Kept the engine running (automatic) but nobody got to me fast enough before it died. Started up and went 10 ft, died, and will not start... Ideas? Pulled #3 plug and no water. Starter just wet? It does turn...???

Back half...wheels covered...floorboards in back full and driver front a bit wet. No water in the intake. Could it have go thru a breather in the gas tank? Won't even sputter to start right now. Starter does engage and wants to keep stuck.

I'm kinda stumped. Did the water reach as far as the bottom of the engine? Other than the gas tank, there's not much back there to prevent it from starting. I think you would have had to suck a quantity of water to get that to happen so quickly. Was it sputtering before it died or was it sudden?

If the back half was deep enough the evap box could have sucked in enough water to water log the fuel system. If possible disconnect a fuel line, pump gas through it and see if you get water or gas.

Pull a plug, hold it somehow about a half inch away from the plug and see if it sparks when the engine is turned over.

Check the air filter, make sure no water is in their either.

The Jeep should start in "limp mode" if nothing else.

Ehen you get home, clean out the axles they are probably full of water by now, clean the fuel tank, fuel filter, engine and trans oil.

    Good luck.

If the jeep stalled in the water then it could have vacuumed some water in the tail pipe. Other than that I have had all 4 wheels submerged over the top and no Issues, but mine was not turned off in the water. My guess is to check for a spark.

At the jeep dealer in Roseburg. Just came to me with a jar of river water that came from the tank. Guess in most of the plug sockets as well...yikes...

It doesn't take much water to ruin your day. It's heavier than the fuel so it goes straight to the bottom of the tank where your fuel pickup sucks it up and sends it to the engine. Question is where did it get in from? That way you can fix it and keep it from happening again.
