Default T-case shifter broke.. Linkage still connected

i was playing around in 4low seeing how the crawling was with my new 35's when it busted and suddenly shifted easily back and forward. thinking it was the bushing by the transfercase i climbed under, but it looked to still be connected. its on the right side of the transfer case correct? and runs towards the front? how do i take apart the dash to check under the tcase shifter?

It's on the driver's side. To get to the one in front, you have to remove the console. The plastic bushing and the cable ends are made of plastic and have been known to break.

Below is a pic of mine with a temp fix after the plastic bushing broke.....

A new bushing and the one that broke....

The part number for the bushing is 1-68064273AA. I paid $.30 each for mine. That's right, 30 cents. I bought all that they had in stock (6 pieces).

where did you buy them? do you have to take apart the front of the dash to remove the center console?

Buy them from the dealer. The bushing is accessible from beneath the vehicle. Wait for the exhaust to cool or you'll burn the snot out of your wrist.

There's another thread on this (Write up request: transfer case...). See redstarcluster's recommendation:

When fixing your cable, make sure you put the bushing on the cable first, then attach both to the transfer case. Let me repeat that...

I put the bushing on the little knobby nipple thing first, and now cannot get the o-ring around the bushing. I cannot get the bushing off either. I'm stuck in 4-Lo.

    Any suggestions?

    thanks, dissonance
BTW: when this broke on the trail, duct tape fixed it!

its on the right side of the transfer case correct?

no its on the left side of the transfer case, its designed to brake befor the shfter lever is. You have to pull the hole center consol/ am rest apart, you mght be able to put one finger under the side cover and feel if it has poped off. you remove 2 screws at the back and 2screw up font and on both sides and pull off the knobs, apply the hand brake and pull it up.then you will be able to seee th top o the shifter.
