Default Tire slip almost got me hit

2012 Rubi here. I was making a left turn in the city with a car coming from about 100 feet away in a 30 mph zone. When i attempted to accelerate from a stop and make a left turn i traveled into the oncoming traffic lane and just sat there wheels spinning. My tires where wet as there was water in the turn lane. Needless to stay, I think my tires just spun and I almost got clobbered. Should the traction control provide some kind of relief other then just letting the tires spin? I left of the gas and slowly applied but the the tires just spun again. Dam 285 hp.

Now that I think about it, it does make sense. The Rubi doesn't have an auto slip locking diff like my chevy. Not sure what the traction control actually does or how it would be able to assist in the situation of rear tire spin. I'm sure I just sat there with one wheel spinning. Didn't hear anything and couldn't tell you which wheel was spinning. Felt like I was just dead in the water. Wonder if it was an oil slick and not a puddle I was standing in when I hit the gas. For those in Houston this was on Alabama Eastbound making a left on Shepard at about 3pm today.

No light. Possibly both tires where spinning so the ESP thought we where just moving fast and not spinning the tires.

Not unless the front tires were both spinning also. Sounds like your ESP isn't working.

Oil slick sounds highly probable. 100' comes quick even at 25mph, and, it could have been less. I think you know that type of road condition doesn't warrant that type of turn, especially in a JK. Sorry, operator error on this one. You're stopped anyway, waiting a few seconds not to get T-boned is cheap insurance. Obviously you don't have to agree but you asked. I would bet at that point you were more concerned with getting waffled then looking to see if your ESP light activated.

Ditto! I've learned not to make a move in traffic that depends on everything going as I expect it to.

My 09' Rubi breaks traction on any serious acceleration from a standstill on wet pavement, ESPECIALLY if a turning radius of any amount is involved. Less is more on the skinny pedal in those situations and yes my ESP always kicks in but that's only AFTER wheel spin is detected.

That's funny - I have never had problems with Rubi tires for the ~20K miles I ran them, but I have driven on Texas roads, and they can get -super- slick when it rains.

Like others said, sounds like ESP wasn't working, or didn't kick in appropriately.
