Top 5 Mods to Prep Your Jeep Wrangler for Summer

Few smart upgrades can turn the Wrangler into a perfect summer getaway ride.
The Jeep Wrangler was certainly built for all seasons, but let’s be honest–it really comes alive in the summer. Jeep has always been appealing as a go-anywhere, do-anything vehicle. And with summer here, many will head out in their Wranglers to put that durability to work. There is a sense of freedom in riding in an open air Jeep; an especially sweet freedom that only the summertime can promise.
Before you hit the road, you might want to consider a few modifications that can improve the Wrangler’s efficiency, safety, and performance.
In this video by Extreme Terrain (XT), Merideth Evasew explores five excellent mods to transform the JL into the ultimate summer ride. This is part of XT’s Throttle Out series, a great resource for all Jeep fans.
Solar Screen Cover
While basking in the sun it is a good idea to have cover. Not only does a screen cover protect from the suns rays, it can keep out the bugs, and provide shade. Evasew is using a Steinjager Teddy Top Full Length Solar Screen Cover which is a nice choice.

It fits well, covers the entire Jeep without having to put tops back on, and it lets the air in with a durable mesh screen. Plus it stays secure and looks clean.
Trail Doors
Taking the doors off is a great way to experience some open air fun. However sometimes that can leave riders feeling too exposed.

Trail doors are an easy way to get security without taking away from the experience. She uses Rugged Ridge Fortis front and rear tube doors. Aesthetically they suit the Jeep nicely. Plus they are sturdy, easy to install and include side mirrors.
Seat Covers
Going to commune with Mother Nature? Yeah, it’s going to get messy. But good seat covers will allow you to enjoy the fun off-road, without worrying if you are ruining the interior.
She has chosen RedRock 4×4 Custom Fit Front and Rear Seat Covers in black, and they look great. It is made of a neoprene material, which is easy to clean and pretty comfy. Great seat covers are always a good idea if you are traveling with pets, as well.
Security Deck Enclosure
While out and about on a day trip, you might need a secure place to store your belongings. The Tuffy Security Deck Enclosure is pretty brilliant.
The enclosed storage fits in the rear deck and is fully secured when the rear door is locked. It is a solid security space, and requires no modifications to install. This is a clever item that would be useful year round.
Cold Air Intake
With temperatures running hot, it is likely to affect a Jeep similarly. Evasew is using the K&N Series 63 AirCharger Cold Air Intake to keep temperatures down and increase performance.
By delivering an unrestricted air flow, the engine breathes deeper and runs cooler. The cold air intake will improve efficiency, as well as improve performance, and boost horsepower, torque, and throttle response. Also, it is fairly simple to install, no-tune needed. Definitely a mod that should produce some stellar results.
