Aluminum Wrangler Likely a Done Deal

It appears the speculation that the Wrangler could be going aluminum is true.

More reports are surfacing that Jeep is planning to go with the lighter body structure as part of the redesign of the iconic SUV to make it more fuel efficient. The new Wrangler, expected to debut in 2017, will also feature a raked nose and windscreen, and an eight-speed automatic transmission, according to Automotive News.

There’s even talk there could be a diesel model.

I certainly can appreciate a Wrangler with better gas mileage, but as I noted when I first heard this months ago, I sincerely hope Jeep doesn’t go soft for the sake of a few MPGs.
