Full Flex and Battle Scars on the Rubicon Trail (Video)
This Wrangler uses all of its extended articulation to make it through The Big Sluice on the Rubicon Trail.
TrailRecon is a father and son team that make videos of their adventures off-road. This piece of raw footage is from their adventure on the Rubicon Trail. In true Rubicon Trail style, it takes over three minutes to travel 50-60 feet. The Big Sluice is a downhill section of the trail full of large granite rocks. It takes all of the articulation their heavily modified Wrangler could stretch out of its suspension.
It also took a little help from the side rail to get around a particularly large rock. Veteran journalist Pete Lyons once pointed out “The ideal Jeep would have a hinge in the middle for this section,” and it’s hard to argue with that. A shorter wheelbase may help, but ultimately a set of rocker guards or sliders are essential. And a good spotter, of course.
TrailRecon’s Wrangler is a project in motion, but the suspension is well dialed in. To get that flex they’re using a Rock Krawler suspension kit and an electronic sway bar disconnect. To drop the air pressure and increase the footprint of the tires reliably, Brad is using a set of KMC Machete Crawl Beadlocks.

Brad from TrailRecon is promising a video of his whole trip through the Rubicon Trail once he has finished the editing. We can’t wait to see it.
