BFGoodrich Member Profiles: Nathan Wright
Welcome to BFGoodrich Member Profiles, where we take some time and talk to select members of JK-Forum and find out more about them. First up is Nathan Wright, who has been into trucks and off-roading for over 20 years. You’ll know him better as “Captain Obvious” on the board so let’s take a brief look into his Jeeping and off-roading life.
At 36 years old, Nathan Wright has been off-roading since he was 16. He started out in trucks, but soon found out why JK owners have fallen in love with their Jeep Wranglers with his 2012 Wrangler Unlimited. He’s also a military veteran and actually purchased his JK through the Army PX, or Post Exchange, System and their deal with Chrysler. If you are unfamiliar with the PX, it is a place where our military men and women can purchase goods and services ranging from food to vehicle maintenance.
So why did Nathan go away from trucks to his JK Unlimited? “With the release of the JK platform, I became much more interested in the Jeep brand. With the way the vehicle is designed, it becomes a great vehicle to take off-roading with a family.” However, since this purchase, Nathan has become loyal to the brand. “I’ll be hard-pressed to switch to another 4×4 because of the off-road capability, yet on road handling that permits it to be a daily driver.”
He’s also a family man, and some of his best moments are off-roading in his JK with his daughters. “What I love the most about my JK is going off-roading with my daughters in the back seat and them saying ‘Daddy, take the hard line!’” However, his favorite trail is the legendary Moab and the Easter Jeep Safari. “With the scenic beauty of the trails, great people, and incredible wheeling, it makes for a truly memorable experience that I intend to repeat as often as possible.”
Just like many JK owners, Nathan has done some modifications to his Unlimited. What is his favorite modification? “The 4″ lift and 37″ tires.” He adds, “That provides the perfect compromise of off-road capability with on-road manners that can conquer most obstacles, yet is still capable of being a daily driver.” He loved the BFGoodrich tires that were stock with his JK.
“The traction and wear life of BFG tires are well above that of other brands. I discovered this best when I was still on the stock tires on my Rubicon. The BFGoodrich T/A KMs provided me the traction to go places in a stock Jeep that I wouldn’t have dreamed of taking my lifted Chevy!” Of course, you can’t stop modding when you’ve started. “The next mods will be additional armor or a winch. Eventually I plan on a long-arm kit with coilovers. Because, why not?”
Being a Jeep convert, he has his eyes on the next Jeep Wrangler chassis. What does he look forward to seeing on the next Wrangler? “The most desirable option for future Jeeps would be a diesel engine. Factory 35s on the Rubicon package would also be a great upgrade!” I, nor many other members, could argue with those wants for their next new J-chassis.
Who are some people Nathan would like to thank for helping him on his Jeep? “The people who I’d like to thank the most are the people from the SoCal JK-Forum, specifically the ones from the San Diego County area. They are a great group of people who have helped me learn a ton of information about the JK platform, and are great people to go wheeling with. It’s also great to see how they all pull together and help each other when it comes time to wrench on someone’s vehicle. Our typical wrenching party has at least 10 to 15 people working.”
On behalf of BFGoodrich tires, we thank Nathan for not only being a Jeep convert and a member of JK-Forum, but also for serving our country.
