I’ve got to say, I like how Sergio Marchionne, the CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, thinks.

Well, aside from the talks of moving Wrangler production out of Toledo, which I’m hoping he’s reconsidering as I write this, but for now, let’s just focus on the positive, which is pretty big.

Make that “way big”.

Over the next four years, Marchionne wants to nearly double Jeep’s annual volume to a whopping 1.9 million, making it the company’s top global brand and subsequently one of the strongest in the world.

Ambitious? Absolutely, but so were plans to boost Jeep’s sales volume to 1 million this year, which the brand seems nearly certain to pull off. Add the new Renegade and Cherokee to the mix as well as a few other models we hear might be in the works, and Marchionne’s vision gets even clearer.

That said, I sincerely hope Mr. Marchionne makes sure the Jeep brand remains intact in the push for global domination. Sales come and go, but respected heritage has far more longevity.
