FCA Issues Recall for Some 2017 Compass Models

New Jeep Compass’ half-shaft could potentially break off and lead to an accident.

Don’t get too settled into that new Jeep Compass just yet.

FCA has issued a recall for the new compact SUV models equipped with a 6-speed transmission, as detailed in a report by CNET’s Road Show.

Apparently, the issue stems from the left front half-shaft, which helps to transfer power from the Jeep’s transmission to the wheels. On the Compass models being recalled, the half-shaft could potentially disconnect from the transmission or break entirely. If this happens, the SUV’s “motive force” could be impacted, which could potentially lead to an accident, depending on the scenario.

The origin of the problem has been linked to the half-shaft not being properly seated.

According to CNET, even if the vehicle is in park, it could potentially end up rolling if the half-shaft breaks and the parking brake has not been applied. So this is definitely something that you want to get checked by your Jeep dealers as soon as the official recall is issued.

Of course, car owners should treat every recall with a degree of great importance, considering that they are often attributed to safety issues, which never, ever should be taken lightly.

FCA is expected to start issuing the official recalls for the Jeep Compass on or around June 23. Owners will be notified by certified mail. Oh, and of course, Jeep dealerships will be making the fixes free of charge.
