Flooding Destroys Brand New Jeeps at New Jersey Dealership

By -

FCA may tout the towing capability of new Jeep products, but Mother Nature can move 16 vehicles in silky smooth silence.

August 13 saw torrential rain for many areas around Newark, New Jersey, and one of the areas affected was a suburb north of Newark called Little Falls. Snaking through Little Falls is the Passaic River, which crested its banks. That proved to be quite a big issue for Route 46 Chrysler Jeep Dodge, which has an inventory lot that butts up against the river.

Flooding was so immense that the normally small stream crested its banks as it turned into a river. The flowing flood water managed to sweep away 16 vehicles, and we aren’t talking small ones. Everything from a Compass to a Ram 1500 were part of the melee, with one Jeep Grand Cherokee that managed to squeeze through the newly created Mopar dam. A local ABC News reporter spotted that Jeep downstream from the dealership.

Slow But Devastating Flooding

Torrents from the water weren’t exactly quick-moving, but they were ruthless, as vehicle after vehicle slammed into each other. Some simply crushed up against the other cars, some were flipped over, and others became submerged. Then another danger became present as you can see in the video: the structural integrity of the bridge.

Other areas of Little Falls felt the impact of flooding, too, with shopping centers along Route 46 seeing increased water levels and flooded cars as well.

The Drive reached out to the Jeep dealer for further comment on the situation but had no word back. Despite this, it is said the dealership opened for business as usual, just with a few fewer cars on their lot, and probably a second thought given to where cars are parked in relation to the river.
