Germany Threatens to Ban Jeep Sales?

Jeep Banned in Germany Artwork

It sounds like Jeep’s huge global expansion strategy has run into a bit of snafu.

According to Allpar, the brand is in jeopardy of being totally banned in Germany due to disagreements with Jeep’s parent company, FCA, over diesel engine emissions. Although, it seems like the concerns are being driven by Germany’s desire to protect Volkswagen in the fallout of its diesel fiasco, more so than any emissions violations on Jeep’s part.

The German transportation authorities contend that FCA has been “uncooperative” in trying to address the concerns raised by officials, notes Allpar.

Sounds like Germany might be a little ticked off that Jeep has been gaining so much ground in Europe, if you ask me. Either way, it all could have a major impact on the brand moving forward.

Apparently, Germany accounted for 18% of all new Jeep sales last year, with a total of 14,819 vehicles sold. That’s a lot of market share to make up, even for a brand as strong as Jeep.
