Grand Cherokee SRT8 Runs a Low Nine-Second Quarter Mile

By -

Heavily modified Jeep’s first run at drag strip is faster than a Hellcat.

Is it us, or does the idea of a high-riding, twin-turbo Grand Cherokee roaring down a straightaway in the Land Down Under seem a little odd?

If so, then the idea of the Jeep clocking a quarter-mile time in the low nine-second range (which is faster than a Dodge Challenger Hellcat) is sure to throw a lot of people for a loop. In case you forgot, the Hellcat reportedly does the quarter-mile sprint in 10.8 seconds, according to an Autoevolution report.

Insane, right? Think about it: Someone in Australia has managed to pull off a Grand Cherokee SRT8 mod that’s reportedly faster than the new Trackhawk. And we have the video footage to prove it. Apparently, this is the Jeep’s first outing at the drag strip. Still, it’s not clear what’s powering this monstrous family-hauler-turned-speed-demon.

If one thing’s for certain, there’s a lot more at work here than a standard Hemi V8 and a pair of turbochargers. Of course, the video (posted by Fullboost) pretty much gives that away.

Of course, if given the choice, we’d still opt for the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The thought of having to swallow a few losses at the drag strip against a heavily modified SRT8 pales in comparison to the feeling that comes with owning the fastest production Jeep ever made.
