The 2014 diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee seems to have made quite an impression on Consumer Reports.

In a recent report on the group’s fuel economy tests for vehicles this year, the trusted source praised the new Grand Cherokee while bringing into question some of the numbers touted by competitors.

In fact, the Grand Cherokee got high marks in a number areas including improved controls, better fit-and-finish, the eight-speed automatic transmission, and the SUV’s electric steering system.

The most noted feature, however, was the available 240-horsepower, 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6.

“Overall, this modern diesel brings a new level of fuel efficiency to the Grand Cherokee while retaining a mostly civilized driving experience,” reads an excerpt from the Consumer Reports analysis.

In its run, the diesel Grand Cherokee had an overall fuel economy figure of 24 mpg, putting it dead-even with the diesel-powered Volkswagen Touareg TDI as the most efficient non-hybrid midsize SUV on the market.

The Grand Cherokee’s 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 yielded an improvement of six mpg compared with the 3.6-liter gasoline V6 model.
