Here’s a YJ Everyone Can Respect

This Beefed-Up ’94 Wrangler YJ Is Not Your Typical ‘Yuppie Jeep’

Many folks might not have known it, but the Jeep YJ Wrangler was once considered the dark sheep of the nameplate.

Namely, because it featured a lot more comfort features than some of the earlier models, like the CJ-7 and CJ-5. In fact, many dubbed it the “Yuppie Jeep,” as highlighted in a recent Four-Wheeler report. And the YJ’s square headlights certainly didn’t help that reputation much.

So, anyone calling a YJ Wrangler “badass” will likely be met with a bit of skepticism by those who truly know the history of Jeep. That said, our guess is that David Wallace’s beastly ’94 Wrangler mod would make a believer out of just about any YJ critic.

Just look at that thing shine in the wild. And don’t let that cute little face planted on the “rusty camo” wrapped door fool you. This thing is as hardcore as custom Wranglers come. Under all that cool-looking sheet metal, David’s YJ is equipped with Dana 60 axles from an ’88 Ford F-350 in the front, and a “full-floater” 14-bolt GM axle from an ’86 Chevy 2500 pickup.

The heavily-beefed up YJ also features 17-inch Raceline Monster wheels fitted with 40×13.50R17 Toyo Open Country MT tires, with a full hydro PSC steering system that makes it a lot easier to navigate those meaty threads off-road.

In addition, the wheelbase on David’s Jeep has been stretched to about 112 inches, which, along with the Jeep’s 4-inch lift, gives it a lot more off-road capability than you typically get from a YJ.

Yep, like we said earlier, we can’t imagine that this would fit the bill of a “Yuppie Jeep.” But if you need a little bit more convincing, check out the full Four-Wheeler report. Then let us know what you think!
