A failed or failing axle seal is a serious problem for any vehicle. But off-roading in your Jeep may raise this issue more quickly.

The rear axle on the Jeep is not completely impervious, even though the JK is built to be extremely tough and can take a beating. Axle seals can fail for various reasons; there is no one way that can guarantee that they will last longer than the next. At some point all vehicles will have a failed seal. So what is the plan if you find an oil leak behind the back axle of your JK? What can you do to tackle this issue? Well, of all the items that you can take on at home, this is one of them. That being said, this is not one of the quickest DIY repairs that you may undertake, especially if you have never done it before.

While the process is not as hard as it may come across, it will take some patience and understanding while working through the repair. Following directions will be key to your success. From start to finish there is a chance you may be able to work through this repair in about an hour. Some with more experience may be able to work faster, others slower.
