It’s no secret that the world’s emerging markets are the new-found gold mines and cash-cows of multi-national companies, including auto manufacturers. And Jeep’s recent announcement confirms that such strategies are alive and well inside FCA’s boardroom.

Jeep has its sights set on mid-2016 to commence vehicle sales for the first time ever in India. The news came as Jeep executives presented the Cherokee, Cherokee SRT, and the iconic Wrangler to the press and public at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo earlier this month.

Jeep CEO, Mike Stanley has mentioned before that an aggressive expansion to foreign and emerging markets is key to reaching the potential that Jeep and FCA expect, and need, in order compete in today’s globalized auto industry.

The quintessential American brand will also add India to its portfolio of foreign manufacturing plants, as they aim to start production of a model not-yet-announced in the city of Ranjangaon, near the business mega-hub that is Mumbai.

With brands from Ford and General Motors thriving in such markets, it’s only a matter of time until everyone else follows suit—if they haven’t already done so.
