Jeep joins in the latest auto trend, and FCA seeks to eventually expand this pilot program to its other brands, too.

With most of the industry already moving in the direction of car subscriptions, Jeep has been the latest to announce they are on board as well. Mike Manley, head of the Jeep, was speaking in Italy to investors when it was announced, according to AutoWeek.

The aim is to open up the availability of other Jeep products to driver who might not want to be locked into one particular car for a lease or financing term. As we reported earlier, Jeep has quite an incentive to do this, with 10 new models and EV’s added to the lineup in the next coming years.

The subscription process itself works in tiers. Jeep describes these as “good, better and best” which will dictate which Jeep vehicles one may have access too. Those in the “best” category could see themselves in a TrackHawk, for instance, as the top model of the range.

Subscribers will have an allotment of “coins” to use for their vehicle preference, with the ability to buy more when they want to splurge on another model.

Initial portions of the subscription service will roll out in the North East region of the US. Models available will consist initially of Wrangler, TrailHawk and TrackHawk offerings.

Since a subscription doesn’t necessarily include a purchase of a vehicle, dealerships are curious about how the process will unfold. Right now, dealerships would be the main providers of service, from pickup and drop off, signing the subscription plan and taking care of maintenance and any other concierge service. So long as compensation for dealerships is sufficient, there should be sufficient support for the program.

Jeep is one of a number of car makers rolling out subscription service for their cars, and FCA is looking to see if there would be crossover between their brands. However, its uncertain if Jeep enthusiast would make the jump to Alfa Romeo, or Maserati, for instance.
