Jeep JL Wrangler Diesel Release Date

Russian and Middle East market JL Rubicons are just now hitting showrooms and have a trio of engines available.

The world has been waiting to get their hands on the all-new Jeep Wrangler JL with diesel power under the hood since the first JLs hit the showrooms late last year. The Jeep JL Wrangler Diesel release date for a few other markets will have to wait longer for theirs, but the diesel wave has finally crashed upon its first markets.

According to Motoring.com.au, Russian and Middle East market JL Rubicons are just now hitting showrooms and have a trio of engines available, including a single-turbo diesel option.

Aside from the pair of gasoline engines JL Rubicons available, the turbo diesel is a 2.2-liter Multijet II unit found in the Cherokee. This engine is good for around 200 horses and 332 lb-ft of torque, which is definitely enough grunt to get the JL around the Volga River and the streets of Dubai.

Of course, this option is different from the three-liter V6 turbo-diesel set to arrive in U.S. market JLs later this year, around the same time Jeep’s first truck offering in nearly three decades—which will also have this engine available—will hit showrooms. The engine will also appear in Brazil when the JL arrives in the second half of 2018, while Mexico and South Africa will get theirs in 2019.

Europeans will receive their diesel-powered JLs in September, while the Jeep JL Wrangler Diesel release date for Aussies and Kiwis will be among the last. According the publication, there’s still no word on a firm date for the JL’s arrival in Australia. Previous speculation has placed the date some time in the fourth quarter of 2018, which would make the JL a 2019 model. And whether Aussie JLs will have either the three-liter or the old 2.2-liter unit is also unknown at this time. But as they say, “all good things come to those who wait.”
