Jeep’s Wrangler Rubicon ‘X-Treme Off Road’ package topples upstart Ford Bronco Sasquatch.

Ever since Ford’s new Bronco came along to disturb Jeep’s easy life as the undisputed X-Treme off-road king, the Stellantis brand has been flat out fighting back against the Blue Oval.

Ford made no secret that it was out to topple the “King of the Rubicon” and the Bronco Sasquatch Package duly delivered “best in class” off road performance. Over every terrain value from entry, ramp-over and departure angles to fording depth and ground clearance too.

Jeep Wrangler Recon Package

Bronco vs. Wrangler Tit for Tat

Of course Ford built the Jeep in Wartime, but it subsequently went its own way with the original Bronco. Which returned all guns blazing from its hiatus a few months back. Ford’s off-road rivals at Auburn Hills across the other side of Detroit are having none of it though. Now Jeep has hit back as it fires the latest salvo from its ever-growing Wrangler arsenal. Its all-new X-Treme Recon equipment Package has stolen back its Off Road King crown.

Yours for $3,995, Jeep’s Wrangler Rubicon X-Treme Recon Package package aims to humiliate Ford and its Bronco when the going really gets tough. Jeep’s latest response comes hot on the heels of Ford presenting a selection of modified Broncos on the legendary Moab Easter Jeep Safari, a move seen as sacrilege by many of the Jeep faithful!

Trailer Suggested X-Treme Ability

So now it is Jeep’s turn and if its recent cryptic Twitter trailer on its official channel was anything to go by, the original 4×4 had something special up its sleeve. Especially to those able to see through the video’s subliminal caption suggestions.

12.6 for instance, hinted at the new package’s ground clearance and 33.6 its wading depth. Both impressive numbers in inches. Likewise, working back off the Jeep’s standard 4.1:1 axle ratio through a complex series of calculations considering its regular transfer case gearing and the package’s larger extreme terrain wheel and tire via the video’s 100:1 hint, arrived at a shorter 4.88:1 axle ratio. Another hint (above) alluded to a 47.4-degree approach angle.
