Automotive researchers deemed Wrangler ‘best overall popular vehicle’ while naming Jeep as ‘highest retained value popular brand.’

Jeep is always winning. On the trail. On the street. In the showroom. At shows mixing caffeine with cars. Everywhere a Jeep goes, a line of eyeballs soon follows (some going to their local dealership to pick one up).

And speaking of those new and current Jeep owners, they’ll be happy to know their cost of ownership is one of the best around. Just ask Motor Trend‘s partner, IntelliChoice. The research group recently awarded a couple of titles on the subject to our beloved trail-rated brand.

2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon

First off, the Wrangler picked up the title of Best Overall Value Popular Vehicle, beating out the Toyota Tacoma and Honda Fit for the top spot. The total cost of ownership for the iconic Jeep happens to be nearly $30,000, per IntelliChoice data, much lower than the $45,000 its class usually commands on the subject.

Meanwhile, Jeep itself won the title of Highest Retained Value Popular Brand, owing to how much private sellers can get for a given trail-rated model after five years of ownership. The brand’s score of 57.88 percent beats out those of Subaru (57.53 percent) and Toyota (55.42 percent).

IntelliChoice determined its scoring based on a given vehicle’s actual total cost of ownership versus the expected total over five years. Per the researchers, vehicles and brands “perform better when they have a lower actual cost of ownership compared to expected cost of ownership.” Score one more for the Wrangler and the trail-rated champion of the world, Jeep.
