Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator owners can give their rides an ugly Christmas sweater, and it provides protection for the trails, too.

It’s that time of the year when many of us will be attending at least one Christmas party, an occasion that has become popular among those that like to wear “ugly sweaters,” as they’re commonly known. These are the types of silly and oftentimes gaudy attire that our grandmothers used to wear, and now, they’re all the rage once again – not to mention a great way to stir up some conversation at the next holiday gathering. Now, Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator owners have a way to put an “ugly sweater” on their rides, too.

That’s because Mopar and Mek Magnet have teamed up to create a line of ugly sweaters for the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator, which are based on the latter company’s Trail Armor, a series of “advanced heavy-duty but lightweight ballistic resin panels,” according to description. Those panels attach to the exterior of the truck or SUV, helping to protect it from scratches and dents that one might otherwise incur.

That’s particularly useful for those that spend a lot of time out on the trails, driving through trees and over various obstacles. Mek Magnet says that the Trail Armor can stay on a vehicle for years, but it’s also apparently pretty easy to remove, too. That’s because the panels are basically just big magnets, but are lightweight and use nano-hold technology and a ballistic resin design to provide protection from the outside world without harming the paint.

The panels are also reusable, washable, and rated for all speeds, printed with UV fade-resistant ink. That means one can swap the panels out for new ones when they please – but obviously, now is the perfect time to go with the ugly Christmas sweater design, for obvious reasons. You can even purchase individual pieces if one gets damaged, which is a nice touch. The big kicker is they must be installed in temps between 65-85 degrees Fahrenheit, and must stay dry for the first 48 hours afterward.

The other problem is, these panels aren’t designed to hold up to things like freezing rain, winter slush, or melting snow, unless they’re fully bonded and the edges stay dry. Thus, it’s probably safe to say that Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator owners living in warmer climates will be the target audience here. For them, the ugly sweater Trail Armor can be purchased from Mopar for $648 for the Jeep Wrangler or $818 for the Gladiator, or straight from Mek Magnet for $548-$788, depending on the model.
