Jeep Wrangler Outpost II: AEV’s Ultimate Off-road Camper
With full living amenities and self-contained power, this killer Jeep Wrangler by American Expedition Vehicles is the king of camping.
Overlanding is quickly gaining in popularity as more and more Americans head off-road. And it’s easy to see why. Getting away from the daily grind and concrete jungles we live in and finding a peaceful, beautiful plot of land is amazingly refreshing. And fun. We’ve seen lots of incredible Jeep Wrangler overlanding builds recently, but this one from American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), might just take the cake. Dubbed the Outpost II, it’s easily the closest thing to a bonafide Jeep Wrangler camper you’ll ever see.
As first reported by Curbed, instead of simply slapping a roof-top tent on this Wrangler, AEV took things to the next level. They extended the rear frame of a stock Jeep to make room for a custom camper shell. To handle the extra weight, the suspension was then beefed up and lifted 4.5-inches. Right about now, you’re probably thinking that the hulking mass on the back makes this the slowest Wrangler on the planet. But AEV had a plan for that too. And it’s called 5.7-liters of V8 HEMI power.
The real money of this build, of course, is what lies inside that camper shell. And it’s a full-sized living space, courtesy of an electric pop-top roof that gives you the headroom to walk around freely. There’s also an internal and external kitchen, fridge/freezer combo, and stove. Other notable features include a 22-gallon water tank, LED lighting, and an awning on the outside. Stick a 265-watt solar panel on the roof, and you’ve got a fully contained, self-serving rig.
AEV builds custom vehicles like this one for a living. But sadly, the Outpost II isn’t one of them. This killer Jeep Wrangler was built specifically for the company’s owner, and there are no plans (right now) to offer it to the public. But that doesn’t mean we can’t dream, right?
All is not lost, though. If you have enough time and savvy, you could practically build your own Outpost II, as you can purchase a great deal of its components straight from AEV here.
