MLB outfielder Charlie Blackmon still drives the Jeep Cherokee he had as a teenager

Thirty-one-year-old Colorado Rockies All-Star still drives 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo he wheeled in high school. And we love it!

Meet Charlie Blackmon, JK-Forum’s latest “Greatest Jeep Spirt” recipient. Yep, we think we’ve found another diehard Jeep fan that shares the same passion for the brand as many of us.

Though, there’s a chance that Colorado Rockies’ player might not know he represents the spirit of Jeep. Of course, it’s not like JK-Forum actually has a “Greatest Jeep Spirit” list, so it’s all pretty relative. Then again, maybe we’ll make Blackmon the inaugural honoree.

Why? Well, it really boils down to the simple fact that as a Jeep owner, Blackmon shares the same kind of carefree spirit that has become a defining trait of a diehard Jeep fan. How do we know? We mean, how else do you explain a rich 31-year-old pro baseball player who thinks nothing about having to be rescued after running out of gas in his 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo that he’s driven since high school, as detailed in a Bleacher Report. Not to mention the fact his Jeep has racked up more than 140,000 miles on the odometer.

Had it not been for teammate DJ LeMahieu coming to Blackmon’s rescue, the Colorado All-Star might have pushed the Jeep to the ballpark.

“”I’m always late to workouts, and that morning, it was still early and I had just gotten out of bed when he called me and said, ‘Hey, where you at?'” LeMahieu tells Bleacher Report, recalling the incident. “‘I’m on the side of the highway.'”

Yep, we think that certainly qualifies the MLB player for a spot on our ‘Greatest Jeep Spirit’ list. And apparently, Blackmon’s carefree sprit extends well beyond that particular incident.

“I’ve told him many times, “’It’s about time you get a new car,’” Nolan Arenado, Colorado’s All-Star third baseman, tells the sports news source. “’You’re one of the best center fielders in the game. It’s time.’ But he’s very laid back.”
