Some of the best fixes around are usually the easiest and most straightforward things imaginable. It also makes you wonder why the hell the factory didn’t figure it out in the first place.

Many of you likely know that when you get your Wrangler wet, water and/or mud tend to get stuck inside the side-view mirror plates on the doors. And throughout the week, they tend to weep and splatter the hell out of the side panels. That’s fine for when it’s muddy and dirty, but what about when it’s just been cleaned? No, that’s not good.

Borrowing from an old Land Rover trick, many of you have been weeping holes inside the housing, so that when it does fill up with water, there’s a place for the water to drain out of. One of our very own forum members, Rubimon, decided one afternoon to try the fix, and it worked perfectly.

I washed my Jeep today for the second time. The mirrors drip water for days and leave spots all over the side of the jeep. I read a thread about drilling a weep hole so I gave it a whirl. The first mirror I removed and tried doing the v-cut in the gasket like the thread said. Too much hassle. I ended up drilling a tiny hole underneath where the flat part of the mirror meets the round part (just above the gasket seal inside) and put it back on. I went to the other side and decided to just drill and not remove the mirror. My mirror was pissing like a racehorse! Good quick fix! It’s funny how easy this little fix is, and why the factory couldn’t think to just install it originally. There’s plenty more details in the forum thread, should you need more instruction.
