Marshawn Lynch Goes

Super Bowl Winner Crushes Jeep SUV with the Guys from “Diesel Brothers”

In his playing days, retired NFL running back Marshawn Lynch was known for engaging “Beast Mode,” which allowed him to break through tackles and run over other players on the field. In the following video from Discovery’s “Diesel Brothers” show, he turns it on again to attack a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

It all starts with Lynch and the guys from DieselSellerz, which customizes and modifies trucks, “ghost riding” a giant yellow Ford F-350 Super Duty that’s been converted into a massive off-road toy. It’s got rear-wheel steering, giant tires, a generous lift, a bull bar…and no driver. The bearded bunch and their new friend dance on top and hang off of the rig as it creeps its way down the pavement. One of the guys even walks on top of one of the huge tires as it spins. Not a very smart idea (hanging off of the bull bar of a giant driverless truck as it moves forward isn’t, either), but it makes for an interesting video.

Then comes the carnage. To keep the fun going, the brothers ask Lynch what he wants to do next. He says he wants to drive over a car that’s sitting offscreen. There’s not much car to drive over. In fact, there’s none. The car is actually an SUV, a Jeep Grand Cherokee. It seems to have been the go-to victim for vehicular horseplay. The ZJ is a crumpled mess, front to back. At this point, what are a few more wrinkles and bends in the sheet metal going to hurt (aside from the souls of ZJ owners)?

Lynch goes “Beast Mode” on the not-so-grand Grand Cherokee, driving the F-350 over it, then using the Jeep machine’s corpse to do donuts. We’re pretty sure that’s not the intended definition of the word “Utility” in “Sport Utility Vehicle.”

Derek Shiekhi's father raised him on cars. As a boy, Derek accompanied his dad as he bought classics such as post-WWII GM trucks and early Ford Mustang convertibles.

After loving cars for years and getting a bachelor's degree in Business Management, Derek decided to get an associate degree in journalism. His networking put him in contact with the editor of the Austin-American Statesman newspaper, who hired him to write freelance about automotive culture and events in Austin, Texas in 2013. One particular story led to him getting a certificate for learning the foundations of road racing.

While watching TV with his parents one fateful evening, he saw a commercial that changed his life. In it, Jeep touted the Wrangler as the Texas Auto Writers Association's "SUV of Texas." Derek knew he had to join the organization if he was going to advance as an automotive writer. He joined the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) in 2014 and was fortunate to meet several nice people who connected him to the representatives of several automakers and the people who could give him access to press vehicles (the first one he ever got the keys to was a Lexus LX 570). He's now a regular at TAWA's two main events: the Texas Auto Roundup in the spring and the Texas Truck Rodeo in the fall.

Over the past several years, Derek has learned how to drive off-road in various four-wheel-drive SUVs (he even camped out for two nights in a Land Rover), and driven around various tracks in hot hatches, muscle cars, and exotics. Several of his pieces, including his article about the 2015 Ford F-150 being crowned TAWA's 2014 "Truck of Texas" and his review of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, have won awards in TAWA's annual Excellence in Craft Competition. Last year, his JK Forum profile of Wagonmaster, a business that restores Jeep Wagoneers, won prizes in TAWA’s signature writing contest and its pickup- and SUV-focused Texas Truck Invitational.

In addition to writing for a variety of Internet Brands sites, including JK Forum, H-D Forums, The Mustang Source, Mustang Forums, LS1Tech, HondaTech, Jaguar Forums, YotaTech, and Ford Truck Enthusiasts. Derek also started There Will Be Cars on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
