Jeep Resurrects Scrambler Name for New Pickup

2019 Jeep Wrangler pickup will pay homage to iconic CJ-8 from the 1980s.
Looks like the new Jeep pickup has an official name, although the name itself isn’t so new. According to a report by MSN, Jeep will call the new Wrangler-based pickup Scrambler, which is a throwback to the elongated CJ-8 of the 1980s. You probably never thought you’d hear that name making a comeback, huh?
Well, apparently it is a much more modern take that will include much more capabilities than that old-school Jeep so many people still covet.
At this point, it’s not clear if the new JT pickup will be powered by a 3.6L V6 Pentastar engine or a 2.0L Hurricane turbo four-cylinder engine. But what seems more certain is that the Scrambler will feature a removable top. That should add to the same kind of top options that are available for the highly-anticipated JK Wrangler, which includes the traditional factory soft top, a black three-piece hardtop, and a body-color three-piece hardtop.
What do you think of the new Jeep Scrambler? Weigh in on the forums.
Size-wise, the new Jeep pickup’s frame is expected to be 33 inches longer than the new JL Wrangler. This change gives the JT frame 205 inches in length.
News of the new Jeep’s name comes amid growing speculation that Jeep’s parent company, FCA, might be revving up to sell the nameplate. Of course, company officials are being pretty mum about the rumors. However, as the Jeep brand pushes more aggressively ahead to build on its ever-expanding portfolio of vehicles, the nameplate certainly seems poised for a big asking price if or when it does decide to seek a buyer.
