1972 Jeep Commando Survivor

Is this oddball of a Jeep begging for a second life out on the trails?

The Jeep Commando, otherwise known as the Jeepster, is an almost forgotten model in Jeep’s history. Manufactured for less than a decade in the mid-’60s to early-’70s, there aren’t too many of them floating around anymore. So, when we find a Commando on the market, we feel like our readers have to take a look. And this one is truly special.

Listed as a survivor (though the definition of this term can be greatly debated), Classic Cars has a listing for a 1972 Jeep Commando. This truck is a one of the few Commandos out there with (mostly) original parts. While the listing does show that there has been one repaint, as well as replaced window seals and spring shackle bushings, this SUV is about as close to original as you can get with a 45-year-old vehicle.

The real news is just how gorgeous this vehicle is. The Julep Green Metallic paint job with white removable hardtop makes this SUV look brand new. As you make your way to the interior, you’d be hard-pressed to find any signs that this car is almost five decades old. The seats, dash, gauges, headliner, and even gold floor mats are all original. If you were told this Commando had been completely redone, you’d probably believe it.

This Commando’s excellent condition is due to the fact that it was garage kept and “pampered” for most of its life. It’s in such great shape that the radio and A/C still work just fine. Under the hood, you’ll find the factory 304 V8 engine, as well as an automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes. Best of all: The Commando only has 58,000 original miles.

As much as we’d love to see this truck out on the trails, it’s obvious that whoever buys this vehicle will most likely keep it in a garage. That’s a shame. A Commando like this deserves to turn heads out there in the real world.
