Age of Adeline Tries to Pass Off Fourth-Gen Grand Cherokee as Third-Gen Model

If there are any aspiring filmmakers or future reality stars reading this, here’s a free lesson for you: you just can’t fool people when it comes to a Jeep.

Be it the iconic Wrangler or the Grand Cherokee, the vehicles are too darn popular to try to swap one out for another. And when you do so within the framework of a film, it’s nearly impossible not to get caught. Of course, most Jeep fans already know that there’s just no mistaking the lineage of Jeeps, regardless of the make or model year. But clearly, there are still some people who don’t recognize the broad appeal of the brand.

Take, for example, this horrific mistake caught by our friends at Jalopnik. Apparently someone working on the 2015 film The Age of Adaline had the audacity to try to pass a fourth-gen Cherokee off as a third-gen model.

The movie is about a girl named Adaline (played by Blake Lively) who never ages. She happens to drive a Grand Cherokee. For most of the film, Adaline can be seen wheeling around in a 2005 to 2007 model.

Spoiler alert! When the film gets to the final dramatic scene, the Jeep magically turns into a fourth-gen Grand Cherokee. That’s detailed by the taillights, which are vertical on the third-gen models. On the fourth-gen Grand Cherokees, the taillights are horizontal.

Apparently, the team that worked on Adaline aren’t the only ones guilty of making the mistake. Jalopnik also dug up a short film by the name of 405 that debuted in 2000. In that film, producers evidently thought they could pull off a first-gen Grand Cherokee as a second-gen Cherokee.

Although considering 405 was a small-budget film, we’ll cut them some slack. But with a rumored budget of $25 million, The Age of Adaline‘s mistake is totally unacceptable.
